We’re a resource that provides solutions for concerns that are unique to the Asian family culture As one father likes to say, we cover the 3 ‘f’s’ that Asians care about: food, family, and facts! So we provide easy and healthy S. Asian recipes for parents on the go; we have a collection of simple answers to questions about S. Asian customs that children ask (what is Diwali? Why is Krishna blue? ); and we also have a resource of academic information (college rankings, the latest research on child development simplified, and a directory of S. Asian professionals). But we’re also a bit controversial because we want to bring a positive change to the South Asian family system So we bring to the forefront a lot of topics that are taboo in the community (homosexuality, mental health) To this end, we host parenting conferences and workshops to initiate dialogue, share stories of families that have been through challenges, and give ideas for new ways of thinking about generational and cultural conflicts. The goal of South Asian Parent is to encourage honest communication within families so we’re able to be our true selves around each other, and lead less conflicted identities and lives.
